Alternative Payments
Paying for Reiki with your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds
Clients can typically only use Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds if a licensed medical provider writes a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) proving the Reiki treats a specific diagnosed condition (e.g., pain, anxiety, or insomnia).
Coverage Check
Reiki guidelines vary greatly by plan administrator. Call your HSA/FSA administrator before booking treatments to verify that they cover alternative medicine, and to ask if they have any specific paperwork requirements. Below is an example of what the process may look like.
Documentation
Secure an LMN from your licensed healthcare provider (MD, DO, psychologist, or psychiatrist).
The letter must explicitly state:
The client's specific medical diagnosis with ICD-10 code if applicable.
That Reiki is recommended as a necessary treatment for that condition.
The duration of the prescribed treatment plan.
Receipts
Because I cannot accept HSA/FSA cards directly for Reiki, you will pay out-of-pocket and submit an itemized receipt to your HSA/FSA provider for reimbursement. The itemized receipt from me will include all the necessary information necessary for the reimbursement to be approved.
